Description
A critical study of Indigenous artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas’s playful art.
In his distinctive Haida manga, Indigenous creator Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas combines the bold lines of traditional Haida art with the graphic vitality of Asian comics. Beautifully illustrated, Mischief Making traces the evolution and significance of Yahgulanaas’s hybrid playfulness. Addressing such serious concerns as global ecology, settler colonialism, and land-use politics with a mischievous style, Yahgulanaas’s stunning imagery disrupts expected storytelling and creates space for new ways of being and knowing to emerge.
