Anyone who knows me also knows that I am married to a four legged, ankle licking beast named Dixie. She doesn't speak English but I feel like we communicate fairly well; I buy the food, she makes sure I only sleep on 1/4 the total area of the bed. Still I don't know what she is thinking...does she even think like I do or is she acting on blind instinct? This book gets, like the title, inside of the dog and explains in human terms how they smell, see and interact with the world and humans. What I like most is that it is not a book that tells you how to raise your dog but you can use the wealth of fastidious research to better understand your best friend. Also, as a mostly fiction gal, I found this book to be very readable and for a scientist the author very human...why did you fetch my running shoes silly dog when I clearly want my slippers!

Not Jamie's latest cookbook but still my favorite! Full of accessible recipes for novice to middle-of-the-road cooks that will impress your guests (or just yourself!). What sets this book apart is that it also includes practical advice to help you become a better shopper and Jamie's laid back voice won't make you feel silly for not knowing your cuts of beef. I'm a total ditz in the kitchen for starters and a former vegetarian and everything I've made from this book taught me something and came out fantastic. Tons of full-color food porn and every cent of profit gos to his charity "Fifteen" that provides chef training to at risk youth. Thanks Jamie!

Oh Night Circus how do I love the? Let me count the ways... Magic, check, Adventure, check, Mystery, double check, period costume, check, Romance, check (but not too much). The story revolves around two illusionists (magicians? Is magic real?) who have been pitted against each other since childhood by their respective sinister teachers. The setting for this duel of illusions is the mysterious Night Circus, which tours the globe and dazzles visitors with spectacles of maybe magic and a very strict color scheme. But as their teachers attempt to rip them apart permanently the contestants grow closer to each other, and realize that the price of being together is perhaps too high. This delightful book presently sits at number one on the Indie Bestsellers shelf; just read it!

Like to eat? Me too. I'll pretty much read (or eat) anything that uses the adjectives crispy, crunchy, syrupy, succulent, or my favorite...buttery. There are so many foods out there to experience! But once you're in that authentic Ethiopian restaurant what the heck do you order? Try This is like a restaurant menu guide for those of us who can't travel farther than our area code but want to experience the best in say tongue scorching Indian cuisine. So if it's French, Spanish, Thai or Korean barbeque you're having for dinner you will know what to try. I'd like to thank the author for turning me on to the French style omelet...who knew!

I was always a fan of Neil Gaiman's Sandman Slim series and when I found out he wrote novels I got pretty excited. The Graveyard Book is a cleverly weaved retelling of The Jungle Book (staring ghosts, not animals) and is seriously creepy. The bestselling YA book is new in paperback just in time for cool weather and my favorite holiday.

Way better than your average paranormal teen romance. Stiefvater's take on human girl-wolf boy romance is sensual and has a brain. Grace is an intelligent, book smart girl next door type with flighty parents who feels strangely drawn to the wolves that live behind her parents house; especially one with yellow eyes. When Sam, a boy with haunting eyes shows up confused, bloody and fearful at Grace's back door the pair are forced to protect each other. But how can the two stay together when Sam is not human and the Minnesota winter threatens to tear them apart forever? This is the first of an awesome trilogy; Linger is the second and Forever is released in July 2011. See our autographed copies page!
