OK, so far my favorite book of the year. Bold statement, you say? What makes a book that great? This is a reference that has never been brought to a commercial audience before. Scent is a completely overlooked art form. In the beginning, the authors describe wearing scent as walking around with a full symphony walking around behind you playing your theme song.
This is the most passionate and hysterically funny book I have read this year. Who knew you could get so much out of life from a book of perfume reviews! The bad ones are especially fun:
Wisteria (Chantecaille) one star Windex actually
Being neither a botanist nor a garden enthusiast, I couldn't tell you what wisteria smells like. I hope it doesn't smell like this.
Chrome (Azzaro) one star watery citrus
Why, oh why to people want to pay real money to get the smell of their shampoo played louder, and in a form that doesn't even wash hair?
And while the bad reviews are worth the time alone, the ones for the true greats such as Opium are absolute love poetry. You'll never smell the world the same again.
