Holiday 2010

Howdy!

It's that time again, folks!

Time to share our favorites of the season and remind you that we:

  • Wrap for Free
  • Have Gift Cards
  • Sell eBooks for your eReaders
  • (wha?!?!? see last entry)

We know that many of you are getting or giving e-readers this year. It's the Tickle-Me-Elmo of the season!  We want you to be able to read with freedom of choice of format and provider.  That's why we sell Google ebooks.  They go with you everywhere and work on ALL devices EXCEPT the Kindle.  Why?  Well, you'd have to ask them why they don't want to play with the rest of us.  I'm not sure.

You can read our ebooks on your iPad, Sony eReader, your Kobo, Nook, home PC, laptop, Android phone, iPhone...every device you can imagine, except the Kindle.

Enjoy your new toys. I'm hoping for an iPad myself.

Nothing beats a book for me, and nothing will anytime soon.  I got into this gig to make people happy by sharing and connecting over the written word.  This is just a new way for me to share that dream and that devotion. If you're interested/intrigued/mildly-appalled-but-can't-help-looking, check out the button on the right.  And Happy Holidays!

Cheers!

Kelly

P.S. Don't forget to check out The Booklady's Blog for her end of the year picks of her favorite titles. You can trust her implicitly. We do!!

What a lovely gift for the cook or the designer!

Also, marvelous inspiration for a jewelry designer, I think! Dransfield's: Are you listening?

Farfalle cufflinks?

Gnocchi cocktail ring?

Radiatori tie pin?

If you've never noticed my book ring that they made for me, you can't imagine the things they can do. Just ask me! I always wear it.

Back to the book: full of great recipes and history of pasta shapes. Fun and fascinating.

Featuring contributions from Duff Goldman of "Ace of Cakes" fame and co-authored by Jeff VanderMeer (whom you may remember was the guest at our holiday party last year), this belated Hanukkah present or really just any day present will have you scratching your head and giggling maniacally. OK, maybe that is just me.

Ever wonder if it is ok to serve Behemoth for Seder?

Are SeaMonkeys kosher?

Wonder no more! Serve your Leviathan free from guilt!

Bring out the hot chocolate and run me a bath: the new Cathy Maxwell is out! She sells at least 500,000 copies of every book she writes and hits the New York Times list every time making her the sellingest author in Richmond and maybe the state!  (Apologies to Mr. Grisham, but he hasn't written as many books). RTBookReview has this to say...

RT Rating

Maxwell is a master at combining poignancy and charming characters with humor, as well as sensuality with tenderness. In this tale of holiday wonder she is the miracle worker.

You ever wonder what tired booksellers do on Christmas Day? Well, now you know.

The whole staff loves the emotionally unstable Llama Llama. What's the issue this time? "How many more days do I have to wait to open my presents?!?!?!?"

Help teach your kids the real reason for the season in a fun way.

Of course, it may not work on some adults...when we had Staff Storytime last Friday night, I turned the last page and Steve said: "So, we don't get to find out what he got? What a rip."

Kelly Says:

Yes, we've been plugging the Google ebooks . My heart is with the original, though.

Lane Smith and Monkey feel the same way.

Here's a video to introduce you to Monkey and Jackass.  Yes, that word is in the book...it's a real animal afterall. It's up to you whether you think it's worth the risk to share this with your children...and possibly their classmates, teachers, etc.

We love it and think it's funny and harmless, but if you want to play it safe, just get it for your adult friends who love books.

Doc loves this book and he's the one to know. He is also part of the management team of the American Civil War Center.

Nobody better embodies the present-day mantra "Eat real food in season" than David Tanis, one of the most original voices in American cooking. Tanis opens this soulful, fun-to-read cookbook with his own private food rituals, then he follows with 20 incomparable menus (five per season) that serve four to six. Full color.

Last year we ran out of A Platter of Figs way before the 25th (and there were no more to be had anywhere!) If you've got your heart set on this one, I'd grab it quick.
