We normally reserve YA Saturdays for authors of young adult fiction, but this book is so wonderful, we've made an exception. This is a good read for anyone ages 9 and up.
When feisty 12-year-old Rebel McKenzie, an aspiring paleontologist, goes to spend the summer taking care of her older sister's seven-year-old son at the mobile home park in Frog Level, Virginia, she never expects to enter a beauty pageant or meet a hand model.

Candice Ransom is the author of more than one hundred children’s books—picture books, chapter books, easy readers, mid-grade novels, biographies, nonfiction, even board books. She also teaches writing for children in Hollins University’s summer MA/MFA program. She is very busy, which is why I’m writing this letter.
