Why Sourcebooks? Their company identity is "We publish authors, not books".
We love that.
They are one of the fastest growing publishers in the U.S. (recently graduating to 10th largest). They have a unique editorial acquisitions process. They are monster marketers! And, as a house and an organization, they have a refreshing reputation unusual in publishing in that they don't take themselves too seriously.
Read more about that here.
Valerie Pierce is the marketing manager at Sourcebooks, an independent publishing company. An avid booklover (practically) since birth, Valerie has taken her passion for the written word and focused her energies on engaging, strategic marketing plans that broaden readerships for the books that she promotes. For the past 6 ½ years she has led the Sourcebooks marketing team, doubled the size of the marketing staff, worked directly with Indie booksellers, initialized the trade email marketing campaigns, helped relaunch imprints, created trade show strategies, and managed title plans across all imprints. She has worked on bestsellers and Indie Next Picks such as The Readers of Broken Wheel, The Paris Architect, The Other Einstein, and The Radium Girls. When she is not promoting books, Valerie can most likely be found reading them.
Heidi Weiland is a proud book-aholic who loves to recommend her favorite reads to everyone that she meets. Thankfully, her position as the Director of Trade Sales at Sourcebooks gives her the opportunity to do just that every single day. Throughout her nine years with the company, she’s worked specifically with independent bookstores, and she is actively involved in Sourcebooks’ various imprints. Her passion for these titles has fueled campaigns that have resulted in several Indie Next Picks that have gone on to become New York Times bestsellers such as Max the Brave, This is Where it Ends, Radium Girls and The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend. She enjoys connecting books with readers and takes great pleasure from hearing a reader say “you so get me.”
